Warning to pet owners regarding the use of catteries, kennels or boarders at home at Christmas
A warning has been issued by Wealden District Council
It is up to pet owners to urge them to be careful when booking a cattery, kennel, or home boarder. Pet owners are urged to check the pet license register before making a reservation, particularly in the run up to Christmas.
Only boarding schools for authorized animals are listed. Pet owners are cautioned not to use a business if they cannot see their contact details on this web page.
Each cattery, kennel and home boarder should have a license posted on their premises and their license number on their website. If a business does not have a license, it can mean that its insurance is invalid.
Wealden District Council awards stars to businesses that ship animals. Five stars means the highest animal welfare standards; a star is the lowest that can be allowed. https://www.wealden.gov.uk/licences-and-registers/licensing/animal-licensing/animal-licensing-register/ displays the number of stars.
Councilor Philip Lunn, the public health and community safety portfolio holder on the council, said, “Pet owners, please be careful when booking a vacation for your beloved pet.” Make sure the establishment is licensed and choose the highest stars. We want you and your pet to have a Merry Christmas.
