RSPCA Column: Could you be the perfect match for Ned, Austin or Hilary and Ashley?

Hillary and Ashley

By Paul Gibson

This week here at the Animal Center in New Cut Lane, Southport, we have a selection of cats all looking for their new forever home.

We have a pair of long life cats, Hilary and Ashley; two beautiful 10-month-old sisters who had been looking for their ideal home for more than two months, but unfortunately had no luck.

They need an experienced adult-only home with owners who will be able to provide plenty of safe spaces for them and understand their fearful behaviors, letting them adapt at their own pace.

Due to the lack of socialization as kittens, this left them very uncertain and scared. Ashley is the more confident of the two (little black mark on her nose), but we’ve found that over time they are both happy to leave their pods behind and enjoy playing with different cat toys and scratchers. It’s the only time we see them relaxing and having fun.

Both girls love their food! They are well known in the cattery for their “singing voice” at dinnertime.

We are looking for a quiet, understanding, adults-only, dog-free home for Hilary and Ashley, but they are suitable to live with another friendly cat.

Our new boy on the block is Ned (or Neddy) Cat, he’s a charming seven year old looking for his second chance at happiness. Neddy is slowly coming out of his shell, but we find that he spends most of his day in bed. Loud sounds or rapid movements startled Ned, so we think a calm, quiet home will suit him best.

Now Ned is getting to know the staff and volunteers, we have found that he is starting to trust them and allow them to pet him and he will happily come back with a whim. When he’s really happy, he’ll roll over on his back to tickle his tummy. Ned also enjoys playing with toys, his favorite being a simple shoelace to chase.

Ned is looking for a mature home (all kids must be 16+), but he could live with another friendly cat (not a dog). Ned will make a lovely addition to your family unit once settled in and will be a very affectionate companion.

Finally, we also have Austin, our one-eyed boy. At two years old, he is now looking for a new home after being placed in our care. He took a bit of time to settle in, which is understandable after undergoing his recent eye surgery.

He healed beautifully and is now getting used to this new way of seeing the world.

Austin can be shy at first, but if you give him a moment, he’ll soon realize you’re there for a cuddle and cuddle, which he’s a big fan of!

Likewise, we think Austin would benefit from a quiet adult home with no other pets. He needs a loving and understanding owner who will let him out of his shell when he’s ready.

Austin is often found sitting outside enjoying the possible sunshine, after an initial period of settling in we think he will enjoy sitting in the garden during the summer months.
