While hundreds of pets from the Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas have been adopted during the COVID 19 pandemic, many more are still stuck in what RCHS calls the ‘COVID loop. “. With fewer families roaming the kennels, cattery, and rabbit, pets that would have been adopted under normal circumstances are still waiting for their new family. The RCHS ‘Fresh Start’ program includes training programs and other incentives to help match its longtime animal guests with adopters.

RCHS spokesperson John Van Zante says: “With our ‘Fresh Start’ program, each week we will spotlight three dogs, a cat and a rabbit who have been with us for a long time. When these special animals are adopted, they will return home with gift baskets specially designed for each animal. Baskets will include training treats, toys and, in some cases, follow-up classes with professional trainers selected specifically to meet the needs of pets and their new families.

RCHS President Judi Sanzo emphasizes: “Even if now is not the right time to adopt a pet, you can still join us in this effort to find homes for shelter animals when you” sponsor a new start ”. Your tax-deductible sponsorship donation will help an adoptable animal get started on the right foot.

Sanzo says RCHS will reveal the identities of a cat, rabbit and three dogs for the Fresh Start program every Friday (the first five identities were revealed on August 27). Announcements will be made on the RCHS website at www.sdpets.org as well as on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The breeding, the cattery and the rabbit of the RCHS are open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Friday to Monday and by appointment on Wednesday and Thursday.
