Last February, Tracey Eaton quit her public service job after 15 years to start Maccy G Pets, a pet walking and sitting service, which covers Norwich and neighboring surrounding villages.

The animal lover couldn’t have dreamed her freshman year would go so well, but when the pandemic hit she saw months of canceled reservations and received no government support.

Her wedding to her childhood sweetheart Lea McGowen, which was due to take place at Norwich Castle in April, has also been postponed.

With a reduced income, she invested in a van to start a pet taxi service that can transport pets and their owners “wherever they need to go.”

Miss Eaton, of Carrow Hill, said: “We have had a fantastic first year with a lot of repeat customers. When the pandemic hit, no one was working away from home, no one was going on vacation.

“All of my reservations when the pandemic started until the end of September have been canceled.

“We decided to use the time and use our savings to buy a van and develop it as a pet taxi.

“We can take you and your pet to vet appointments, to drop off at boarding schools / catteries or anywhere you want to travel with your pet safely … I love to meet people and I love to meet dogs and cats. ”

The van has been fitted with a large crate and has water, a full pet first aid kit, and air conditioning on board. After each trip, the van is disinfected and the bedding removed.

The taxi will be seated next to its current dog walking and pet sitting services which have been adapted to be more secure against Covid.

While walking the dogs, Miss Eaton will arrive to pick up or bring back dogs from guest gardens, using her own leashes and personal protective equipment.

Miss Eaton said that despite the challenges she faced, she felt “valued” as clients continued to use her dog walking services even when working from home.

She said: “We want it to be really personal. What I wanted to create was the service I would expect from a pet sitter or a taxi. I love my animals.

The couple have a bunch of four-legged friends themselves, with dogs Teddy, six, Sam, 10 and Summer, one, and cats Artie, Belle and Henry.

Anyone wishing to use the service can contact the company on 07927216131. Travel is priced remotely.
